Exhibiting a close Class II spread towards the center on the date of Adolph Weinman's obverse, this Mercury Dime is cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1937 10-cent WDDO-014. Class II doubling results from a distorted hub impression where the working hub deformed under pressure, and the centripetal direction — inward towards the coin's center — produces subtle convergence of the date numerals rather than outward broadening. A reverse die marker aids attribution: a die scratch runs west-northwest to east-southeast through the AT in STATES, creating a fine incuse line that fingerprints this working die.
