Collectors familiar with the 1937-D date in numismatics often think first of the famous Three-Legged Buffalo Nickel — but Denver's cent dies that year also yielded a substantial catalog of varieties, including this twelfth documented repunched mintmark. WRPM-012 (Wexler Variety ID: 1937-D 1¢ WRPM-012) represents one of at least twelve working dies on which the D mintmark was punched more than once, leaving visible evidence of the initial placement alongside the final accepted position. Twelve RPMs for a single date is a noteworthy tally, reflecting both the volume of 1937-D cent production — 34.50 million pieces — and the sustained examination this date has received from variety specialists.
