Description
Obverse Stage A: Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Two X-shaped die scratches between the lower area of the G and O in GOD. Die scratch ESE from the right side of the lower horizontal bar of the E of WE. Die scratch north from the right lower side of the L in LIBERTY. Series of die scratches ESE from the bust. Very strong secondary mint mark. Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers abraded away. Die chip on the cheek west of the lips. Slightly weaker but well defined secondary mint mark. Obverse Stage C: Die chip in the field SW from the bottom of the T in LIBERTY. Weaker secondary mint mark lacking details of the curve and lower area. Obverse Stage D: Very mushy mint mark shown above the primary mint mark. Weaker stage C marker. Reverse Stage A: The reverse of this variety is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1937-D 1¢ WDDR-001. NNW die scratch from the inside of the lower right of the opening of the second U in PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage B: Stage A marker abraded away. Very small die chip on the inside center area of the left leg on the M in UNUM. Reverse Stage C: Short die scratch north from about right center of the D in UNITED. Reverse Stage D: New reverse die. Short die scratch on the inside lower right area of the right leg on the M in UNUM.
