1937-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this pre-war Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks four progressive die stages with multiple secondary markers. Die markers UVC-057 / DMR-005: Stage A features a die gouge near rim at K-4 at EMDS and a die scratch south from U of UNITED. Stage B is MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C shows a die gouge under the shoulder point at LMDS, heavily abraded lower lapel folds, a die gouge through the lower 7 of the date, and reverse at LMDS. Stage D is LDS (unconfirmed). The die gouge penetrating the date digit and the heavily abraded lapel folds document advanced surface degradation at Stage C. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, Victor David Brenner's obverse and wheat ears reverse were in their third decade of continuous service by 1937, each Denver die receiving its D via manual punch.
