Description
Documented by VarietyVista with an S/S North displacement, this 1936 San Francisco Buffalo Nickel carries die markers UVC-191 / DMR-008. Three stages: Stage A reverse and obverse EDS (confirmed); Stage B MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C LDS (unconfirmed). Confirmed EDS at Stage A establishes that early die state specimens have been positively identified, providing the baseline die surface condition. The cataloger requests new color, high-magnification digital photographs. The northward displacement means the initial S was placed slightly low, with the corrective punch shifting the position upward. Fraser's design was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm. The 1936-S was the penultimate year of San Francisco production for this denomination, with a mintage of approximately 14.9 million pieces before the series ended in 1938.
