Description

Thomas Petrosie documented this variety in 2014, cataloging it as 1935 Peace Dollar VAM-1I with a classification of II1 - B2a, an I-2 impact rating, and R-5 rarity. The 1935 issue carries historical weight as the final year of Peace Dollar production in the original series, which would not be revived until 2021. VAM-1I's distinguishing features appear primarily on the reverse, where mainly concentric polishing lines near the rim run through the tops of letters over the entire circumference, evidence of rotational die polishing that affected the peripheral design elements. Additional diagnostics include light raised dots of pitting in front of the eagle's neck and near the right U in PLURIBUS, likely caused by minor corrosion or surface degradation on the die face that transferred as raised features onto struck coins.
