1935-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

On this 1935 Denver Lincoln Wheat cent, the D mintmark was punched over a previous D impression in a different position, producing the doubled mintmark image that defines RPM-002. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-046 and DMR-003. Stage A shows light die scratches running north-south on the obverse at early die state. The 1935-D Lincoln Wheat cent was struck in Denver in bronze — 95% copper with a mix of tin and zinc — with a mintage of approximately 47.8 million pieces. Repunched mintmarks on wheat cents reflect the hand application of individual mintmark punches to each working die, a labor-intensive process that produced hundreds of documented RPM varieties across the series. The D mintmark on Lincoln cents of this era appears to the right of the wheat stalk at the base of the portrait, and the secondary D impression is the primary identification point under low magnification.
