1935-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Carrying the top designation as the first cataloged doubled die reverse for the 1935 Denver Lincoln wheat cent, WDDR-001 displays extremely strong Class VI extra thickness on the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM, the dots, both wheat ears and stems, the ERICA of AMERICA, and the upper letters of ONE. The breadth of this doubling across nearly every major reverse element makes it one of the more dramatic wheat cent reverse doubled dies. The obverse carries a die scratch running northwest to southeast above and left of Lincoln's eye, a die crack west-northwest to east-southeast on the lower front of the bust, and a die chip at the left end of that crack. The reverse features a small die gouge as a dot just right of center of the U in UNITED. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-VI and Coppercoins 1935D-1DR-001, this variety was first reported by Delma K.
