1935-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Documented by VarietyVista with D/D North displacement, this Depression-era Denver Wheat Cent carries a repunched D whose secondary impression weakens across die states. Die markers: UVC-1060, DMR-005. Stage A: Die gouge from upper E of WE — EDS; reverse is EDS. Stage B: Weak secondary mintmark — MDS; reverse is MDS. Stage C: LDS (unconfirmed). The progression from visible die gouge at EDS to weakening secondary mintmark at MDS shows how striking simultaneously preserved some features while eroding others. The northward displacement indicates the initial D landed south of the intended position. Struck at Denver in 1935, composed of 95% copper, 5% tin/zinc (3.11 g, 19.05 mm), Brenner's design was in its 26th year with Denver contributing to the nation's coinage during challenging economic times.
