Description
Documented by VarietyVista with an S/S South displacement, this 1929 San Francisco Buffalo Nickel carries die markers UVC-108 / DMR-006. Three stages: Stage A reverse and obverse EDS (confirmed); Stage B MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C LDS (unconfirmed). Confirmed EDS at Stage A establishes that early die state specimens have been positively identified. The cataloger requests new color, high-magnification digital photographs. Fraser's design places the S mintmark beneath FIVE CENTS on the bison reverse, a position prone to variation during hand-punching. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1929-S had a mintage of roughly 7.8 million pieces. San Francisco Buffalo Nickels from the late 1920s represent a productive era, providing a reasonable survival population for variety collectors today.
