Description

Discovered by John Bradley in January 2007, VAM-11 of the 1928-S Peace Dollar is classified as 11 II9 - B2a with I-2 interest and R-4 rarity — an estimated 31 to 200 known examples. Designated "Doubled Motto D W TR," this variety features slight doubling on the D and W at the bottom of the motto and doubled TR on the right side, along with doubling on the designer's initials. The doubling on Anthony de Francisci's initials is a particularly noteworthy diagnostic, as the designer's mark provides a compact area where even subtle displacement becomes apparent. A reliable die marker accompanies the variety: three horizontal polishing lines on the right side of the E, evidence of die surface preparation that helps confirm attribution independent of the doubling itself. The 1928-S Peace Dollar is one of the lower-mintage issues in the series, with San Francisco production numbers well below those of Philadelphia, adding date-rarity appeal to the variety's interest. The R-4 classification indicates a moderate but collectible population, making VAM-11 accessible to dedicated Peace Dollar VAM collectors.
