1927 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

Strong hub doubling appearing as an extra eyelid spread southward from Lincoln's primary eyelid defines this second doubled die obverse for the 1927 Lincoln Wheat Cent, cataloged by VarietyVista. The 1927 cent was produced during the Roaring Twenties, a period of economic prosperity when mint operations ran at full capacity and cent production served a growing retail economy. Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait, introduced in 1909 as the first real person depicted on a regular-issue U.S. coin, was by 1927 in its eighteenth year of production, and the finely detailed portrait continued to register hub doubling in the eyelid area with particular clarity. Die stage documentation records UVC-3408, DMR-003, with Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B showing both obverse and reverse at mid die state, and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The "strong" classification indicates the secondary eyelid impression is prominent enough to be visible without high magnification, placing this among the more visually dramatic doubled dies for the date.
