1927 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

Among the most visually striking Lincoln Wheat Cent doubled dies of the late 1920s, the 1927 WDDO-002 features a very strong extra eyelid positioned well to the southeast of Lincoln's main eyelid, creating an unmistakable secondary contour across the eye area. Obverse die markers include a short die scratch running south-southwest to north-northeast just to the right of the lower D in GOD. On the reverse, a die scratch runs north to south between the lower E and R of AMERICA, with an additional short die scratch between the lower first S and T of STATES. Cross-referenced as CONECA 2-O-IV and cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1927 1 cent WDDO-002, this Philadelphia Mint cent demonstrates Class IV offset hub doubling that produced the pronounced secondary eyelid diagnostic.
