Description
Discovered by Jeff Oxman in February 1998, this 1927 Denver Peace Dollar holds the distinction of being a Top 50 Peace Dollar VAM, placing it among the most sought-after varieties in the series. Cataloged as VAM-2, classified II 2, B2a (Doubled Obverse) with an impact rating of I-3 and rarity of R-4 (estimated 31 to 200 known), the obverse shows slight doubling on the bottom left sides of the front rays, with WE and TR of IN GOD WE TRVST and the designer's initials doubled on their right sides. The reverse is a normal die. Peace Dollars famously use the Latin spelling "TRVST" rather than "TRUST," reflecting the classical styling chosen by designer Anthony de Francisci. The Top 50 designation, awarded to the most visually significant and collectible Peace Dollar varieties, makes this a priority target for VAM collectors. The R-4 rarity ensures that while specimens exist, locating one requires patience and diligence.
