Description
The 1927 (D) Peace Dollar is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Peace Dollars 1921-1935 series. With a mintage of 1.3 million, this is a scarce issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 43% of the year's production. The obverse features a youthful Liberty facing left wearing a radiate crown, designed after sculptor Anthony de Francisci's wife Teresa and the reverse displays a bald eagle perched on a rock above the word PEACE, with rays of sunlight. The 1927-D with a mintage of 1,268,900 is a semi-key date. The 1927-S is similarly scarce in uncirculated condition. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $87 to $4.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7371.
