Description
This 1925 (S) Lincoln Wheat cent displays a pre-cud on the reverse spanning 9:00 to 11:00. The crack has traveled along the rim and isolated a section of the die that has begun to settle under striking pressure, but the piece remains attached and the design within the arc is still partially rendered. Pre-cuds capture die failure in progress: coins struck later from the same die show the section fully separated as a cud, while earlier strikes show only a rim crack. San Francisco struck 26,380,000 cents in 1925.
