David Close identified this Philadelphia Mint Peace Dollar variety, cataloging it as VAM-1AE under classification II 1 - B2a with an interest rating of I-3 and rarity of R-5. The most evocative feature is a die scratch crossing Liberty's jaw and neck junction, informally described as a cut throat mark, where a linear incision in the die transfers as a raised line on struck coins. The obverse die is shared with VAM-1AD, meaning both varieties were struck from the same obverse paired with different reverses at different production points. On the reverse, a die gouge appears among the lower olive leaves, and this reverse die is shared with VAM-1J, connecting three separate VAM numbers through shared components.
