Description

Defined by die breaks at the third left star and scribbling die scratches on the reverse, this 1921 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar VAM-1AS documents advanced structural failure. Die cracks thread through the bottom of the date, across the right stars, and through left stars 1 through 4, while die breaks — more severe than cracks, with displaced metal creating raised irregular features — appear at the lower right of the third left star and at the bottom of 92. On the reverse, fine die scratches run in various directions across over-polished tail feathers, creating the scribbling pattern left by aggressive maintenance that removed clash marks but deposited irregular fine lines. A long diagonal polishing line in the tip of the eagle's left wing serves as a die marker.
