The 1918 Standing Liberty Quarter is a United States quarter from the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series — 3rd of 14 years in the series. In 1918, coins were struck at the San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Denver Mints with a combined mintage of 43.8 million. This represents the highest annual mintage in the entire series, above the series median of 13.8 million. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. The 1918/7-S overdate is one of the most famous and valuable quarter varieties in U.S. numismatics. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Collectors have identified one known die variety for this date (doubled die obverse). Struck two years after the 1916 key date, the lowest-mintage regular issue in the series. Across its variants, estimated values range from $36 to $34K depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type. A notable auction result reached $109K in MS65 grade at Heritage Auctions.
