Description
The 1918 (S) Standing Liberty Quarter - 8/7 is a quarter minted at the San Francisco Mint, within the Standing Liberty Quarters 1916-1930 series. The U.S. Mint produced 11.1 million examples, making this ranked 2nd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 25% of production. The obverse features Liberty standing in a gateway between two walls, holding an olive branch and a shield and the reverse displays an eagle in flight. The 1918/7-S overdate is one of the most famous and valuable quarter varieties in U.S. numismatics. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues.
