1911-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Notable for documenting a reverse die change mid-production, this VarietyVista-recorded 1911-D Lincoln Wheat Cent shows a D/D South displacement. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-1132 / DMR-006 for Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at MDS and die crack from lower left wheat grains to rim at MDS; Stage C with obverse and reverse at LDS. Then UVC-2299 / DMR-007 for Stage D with die crack from front of vest to rim at VLDS, reverse die changed to MDS, and die crack in lower left wheat grains to rim. The vest-to-rim die crack at Stage D provides a strong late-state attribution marker. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1911-D was struck at the Denver Mint just three years after Lincoln Cents began production in 1909.
