Originally discovered by John Coxe, this Philadelphia Mint 1900 Morgan Dollar is assigned the revised VAM-14.2 designation under die classification III2 12 with reverse die C3a, described as Near Slanted Date, and carrying a die pairing number of 189. The obverse features a date positioned further left than normal, with the digit 1 set close to the rim, creating the near slanted date appearance that distinguishes this die from standard 1900 Philadelphia date positions. A key obverse die marker for Die 2 consists of two diagonal polish lines at the upper hair curl, providing a reliable fingerprint for confirming this specific die. Notably, the 1900-P VAM-5 and VAM-14.2 share the exact same reverse die, meaning collectors encountering reverse die C3a must examine obverse characteristics to differentiate between the two varieties.
