1896-P VAM-4A

Description

Recognized as a Top 100 Morgan VAM, this 1896 Philadelphia Morgan Dollar was discovered in 2009 and attributed by VAMWorld. VAM-4A is defined by doubled stars and a doubled eye on the obverse combined with a very near, low date where the digits sit closer to the rim and lower than standard. A horizontal die gouge at the two right cotton leaves and additional gouges and scratches at UN of UNUM provide supplementary die markers on the reverse. The die-linkage relationship is documented: VAM-4A uses the same dies as VAM-4 and shares its obverse with VAM-4B, which carries a different reverse. Gouges at the cap and UN of UNUM developed as the dies accumulated damage during production. The Top 100 designation, curated to highlight varieties with visual appeal and collector demand, ensures premium prices across all grades. Philadelphia struck 9,976,000 Morgan Dollars in 1896, and the doubled stars with doubled eye creates a diagnostically rich variety with multiple attribution points.
