1891-S VAM-1E Shortened Eagle’s Left Wing Discovered by Michael Best, April 2006. 1E III21 · C3a (Shortened Eagle’s Left Wing) (190) Obverse III2 1 - Reverse C3a– Die over polished with shallow ATES OF AMERI, Trust and shortened tip of eagle’s left wing with notch out of wing opposite F in OF. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse:1891-S VAM-10, 1891-S VAM-1E Comments: The exact same obverse die produced both the 1891-S VAM-1E and the 1891-S VAM-2. The exact same reverse die was used to produce the 1891-S VAM-1E and the 1891-S VAM-10 (VAM-10 came first). Not only was the VAM-10 struck before the VAM-1E - There was considerable work done to the reverse die between to two. Note the missing details on the VAM-1E when compared to the VAM-10.
