Error
Description
This San Francisco Mint Morgan Dollar is designated VAM-10A under Classification III2 4, C3c, documenting a Far Date, High S Mint Mark, and Polishing Lines on both obverse and reverse. On the obverse, fine polishing lines appear in the fields, with horizontal lines visible on the cheek. This variety shares the same obverse die as the 1891-S VAM-5D, with a beveled field at the edge of the lower left stars. On the reverse, horizontal die file and polishing lines are present in the fields, with a beveled field below DOLLAR. Struck in 90% silver at the San Francisco Mint, the 1891-S Morgan Dollar comes from one of the final years of original Morgan Dollar production before the series paused after 1904. The shared obverse with VAM-5D establishes a die linkage that allows collectors to sequence these varieties within their production timeline. The extensive polishing lines visible in the fields of both sides suggest the dies were refinished during their working life, likely to extend production use or remove minor clash marks.
