Description
1891-S VAM-1C2 Thorned Neck Die Gouges, Die Breaks Reverse Discovered by Michael Ash, July 2006. 1C2 III2 1 · C3f (Thorned Neck Die Gouges, Die Breaks Reverse) (190) Reverse C3f – Polished die removing die gouges around neck except for lower left one at neck and one between eagle’s left wing and body. Late die state has die chips in In-G-e-s and breaks in right wreath opposite CA and M in AMERICA and opposite IT in UNITED in left wreath. Fine pitting in STATES and left star. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: 1C1, 1C2, 5E Comments: 1891-S VAM-1C1, 1891-S VAM-1C2, & 1891-S VAM-Yet to be "Discovered" were all made with the exact same obverse die. The exact same reverse die was used to produce the 1891-S VAM-1C1, 1891-S VAM-1C2 & 1891-S VAM-5E. The 5E shows clear evidence of a significant clashing event. The date position on the 1891-S VAM-1C1 & 1891-S VAM-1C2 is normal and for the 1891-S VAM-5E it is far.
