Description

Exhibiting a dramatic CC/CC/CC triple punch with secondary impressions to the southwest and northwest, this Carson City Morgan Dollar carries one of the most visually striking repunched mintmarks in the series. The triple-punched CC — where three distinct impressions of the linked-letter mintmark overlap — documents the challenges of hand-punching the Carson City's distinctive double-letter mark, which required precise alignment of two connected characters. Cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #2 and VAM #5, this variety also pairs with WRPD-001, a repunched date showing strong repunching to the west on the digits 18, along with die chips flanking the lower area of the first 8. The combination of repunched mintmark and repunched date on a single die pair creates a dual-variety specimen of considerable interest. Carson City Morgan Dollars command premium collector demand thanks to the Nevada mint's limited 1870-1893 operating period and the romantic association with Comstock Lode silver.
