Description
1883-CC VAM-4 Doubled Date, Dash Under 8 Discovered by George Mallis, June 1965. 4 III2 4 · C3c (Doubled Date, Dash Under 8) (178) Obverse III2 4 - All digits in date doubled. The 1 is doubled on the right side of the vertical bar and above the bottom right serif. First 8 is doubled at the top inside of the upper loop and metal is on the left outside. Second 8 is doubled at top and a short dash appears well below the bottom loop. The 3 is doubled at top and metal is also at top and right and just above the end of the lower loop. Reverse C3c - First C has diagonal line at top inside of loop and metal within it. Second C has metal at bottom inside of loop and short line at very top inside of loop. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: The 1883-CC VAM-4 Shares an obverse die of 1883-CC VAM-8, 1883-CC VAM-8A with doubled date, bar below second 8. Shows all date digits doubled. Additionally there is a short dash line under the second 8 in the date. The quick and dirty difference to tell the reverses apart is the position of the 2nd C in the mintmark. 1883-CC VAM-4 is higher than the 1st, 1883-CC VAM-8 is lower.
