Description
1883-CC VAM-3 Dash Under 8, Doubled 8, Slanted CC Discovered by George Mallis, June 1965. 3 III23 · C3b (Dash Under 8, Doubled 8, Slanted CC) (178) Obverse III23 - Dash under second 8 in date. First 8 doubled at top inside of lower loop and on surface at top left and right inside of lower loop and lower left inside of upper loop. Some specimens show only a dot left of dash. Heavy polishing lines in hair around ear. Reverse C3b - Large V CC slanted with left C set high. Both C’s have polishing marks inside with left C doubled on left inside. Slight doubling of designer’s initial M and top inside of wreath bow. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: There is a later die stage with the clash from 1883-CC VAM-3A polished off the obverse that shows a die break at the front edge of Liberty's neck. The clash from 1883-CC VAM-3A is still somewhat visible behind Liberty's cap & on the reverse.
