Description

Originally cataloged for its slightly doubled ear visible at the right inside of the ear opening, this 1882 Philadelphia Mint Morgan Dollar carried the VAM-26 designation under classification III2 25 - C3a before being officially delisted on November 15, 2017. The delisting indicates that subsequent examination determined the variety did not meet the standards required for continued recognition in the VAM catalog, whether due to insufficient distinctiveness, attribution difficulties, or reclassification of the observed features. Prior to delisting, the variety was documented with a rarity of 179 and an interest-to-rarity profile of I-2 R-5, with identifying characteristics that included the slight ear doubling and a die chip at the top of the E in LIBERTY on the obverse.
