Discovered by LJS123 in 2017 and formerly listed as VAM-22, the 1882 Philadelphia Mint Morgan Dollar VAM-1F2 is classified as 1F2 III2 1 C3a (Die Gouge Below M) with die pair 180. Struck in 90% silver, this variety documents a die that was polished to remove first clash marks and the clashed G, then developed a diagonal die gouge below the M in UNUM before experiencing a second clash event that did not reproduce the clashed G. This sequence of clash, polish, gouge, and re-clash records multiple die maintenance interventions. The same exact reverse die was used for 1882-P VAM-1B, establishing a shared reverse relationship, and the same exact die pair produced 1882-P VAM-1F1, linking these varieties through common dies at different production stages. The former VAM-22 designation preserves the catalog history through the current 1F2 classification.
