1881-O VAM-18 Doubled 18, Die Gouge DOL & Denticle Impressions DOL Discovered by Martin Field,August 1980, Revised 2012 by Brian Raines, Revised 2014 by VAMHusker 6 coin submittal 18 (revised) III2 10 ∙ C3a (Doubled 18, Die Gouge DOL & Denticle Impressions DOL) (176) Obverse III2 10 - Doubled 18 with 1below upper crossbar and left 8 at top left inside of upper loop plus short die chip spike at top left inside of upper loop. Reverse C3a - Long thin die gouge from D thru top of O over to L in DOLLAR. Gouge is from die rim edge impressed into die. Denticle impressions above gouge occurs on initial die state, but likely wore quickly making them faint on later die states. Earlier die state than VAMs 43, 1B _49. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The gouge looks to be a Rim Clash and on "early die state coins" you will see denticle impressions. # Exact same reverse die was used to produce [[1881-O VAM-1B1, [[1881-O VAM-1B2, [[1881-O VAM-18, [[1881-O VAM-43 & [[1881-O VAM-49. # The exact same obverse die was used to produce [[1881-O VAM-18 & [[1881-O VAM-19.
