1879-S VAM-12 Doubled 187 , S/S Left Discovered by Guy Messing, May 1974. Revision Tom Petrosie 2016. May 2021 by vam-mysterio 12 (revised) III2 7 ∙ C3e ( Doubled 187 , S/S Left) (182) Obverse III2 7 – 187 slightly doubled with 1 slightly below top and bottom crossbar , 8 slightly at top inside and right outside of lower loop and 7 at top right outside plus right of lower serif and right side of vertical shaft. Die marker - Tiny hooked die thread impression back of cheek. Reverse C3e – IV S mint mark doubled with a short vertical lines within upper loop on right inside and curved line on right inside of lower loop. Die marker - Single diagonal die polishing line inside wreath bow. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This obverse die was used on1879-S VAM-12, 1879-S VAM-12A, 1879-S VAM-13 & 1879-S VAM-55 This reverse die was used on 1879-S VAM-12 & 1879-S VAM-12A.
