1879-S VAM-101 Discovery 2017 101 III2 52 - C3y (Doubled 79, High S, Engraved Wreath Leaves, Die Chips Wing Tips) (?) Obverse III2 52 - Slightly doubled 79 with 7 at crossbar lower serif and 9 at left outside of upper loop. Extensive die polishing lines thru-out Liberty head including LIBERTY, ear and hair gaps. Die marker - Polishing lines inside and outside ear. Reverse C3y– Same reverse as 1879-S VAM-29, 1879-S VAM-99 and 1879-S VAM-100, but latest die state with die chip at both wing tips with radial die wear lines. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: 1879-S VAM-144, 1879-S VAM-171, 1879-S VAM-102 (EDS), 1879-S VAM-102 (LDS), 1879-S VAM-99 (EDS), 1879-S VAM-99 (LDS), 1879-S VAM-29, 1879-S VAM-100, 1879-S VAM-101 Comments: Exact same obverse die as 1879-S VAM-115. LVA Comment: "Four obv dies with same rev die-- what was going on at SF Mint to use so many obv dies that can't see reasons for changing them".
