Description

1879-S VAM-16A Doubled 9, Gouge in Bow Discovered by Oscar Simpson, March 1977. Revised 2014 Brian Raines 16A (revised) III2 2e - C3x(Doubled 9, Gouge in Bow) (182) Obverse III2 2e – 9 in date doubled on left side. On some specimens 8 has a spike of metal on left side between loops. Open 9 variety. Reverse C3x - Same reverse die as 1879-S VAM-65, 1879-S VAM-75 & 1879-S VAM-80 with acid treated lower right ribbon middle towards S mint mark, bow & some leaves in left wreath.
