Description
1878-CC VAM-9 CC Tilted Right Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. Revised 2007. 9 (revised) II3 - B2c (CC Tilted Right) (177) Obverse II3- Point broken off star 4 on right. Reverse B2c- Normal die of type B2 with widely spaced mint marks, III C, set high and slanted right. Some specimens show large die chips around We Tr and a long heavy polishing line from right top of O in One. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: 1878-CC VAM-4, 1878-CC VAM-9, 1878-CC VAM-28 Reverse: 1878-CC VAM-9 Comments: This coin also has a line in the left side of the B in Liberty. Same obverse is used for 1878-CC VAMs-4 & 28. Only use of this reverse die. There are several minor stages based on polishing lines, the later ones with a bold line from the wreath to the top of O in ONE.
