Description
1878-CC VAM-18 Doubled Obverse Discovered by Guy Messing, June 1973. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. 18 II 4 • B1c (Doubled Reverse) Obverse II 4 - Doubled ear and cotton blossom leaves on the right edges, date, all stars on right and left on bottom edge. Reverse B1c – Normal die of type B1 with widely spaced mint marks, I CC, at medium height. Die chips show in the center of both CC's. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: [[1878-CC VAM-6, [[1878-CC VAM-18 :Reverse: [[1878-CC VAM-4, [[1878-CC VAM-18, [[1878-CC VAM-2B Comments: # 1878-CC VAM-6 & [[1878-CC VAM-18 share the same obverse. Cotton blossoms & leaves are doubled to the right. CC mint mark away from wreath for 1878-CC VAM 18. On the 1878-CC VAM 6, the CC mintmark almost touches the wreath. 1878-CC VAM 18 is much tougher to locate than the 1878-CC VAM 6.
