2009 Atypical Die Clash ADC-1c-2009(FY)-01
Error
Description
ADC-1c-2009(FY)-01 This 2009 Lincoln cent with Formative Years reverse shows strong, unbranded die clashing on the obverse and moderate clash marks on the reverse. Clash marks, originating from the log, can be seen from the top of Lincoln’s forehead, through his eyes and from the tip of his nose. The marks to the right of Lincoln’s chin are the apron and its bow. The book that Lincoln is holding, plus his hand can be seen as clash marks in the area of his jaw. The weaker version of this die clash (one showing just the lines under Lincoln’s chin) is nicknamed ”catfish Abe”, which was derived from the “whiskers” seen below Lincoln’s chin and is commonly found unlike this variety. These clash marks are the folds in the shirt and Lincoln’s left arm. Not pictured is the clash mark that is left by the maul handle protruding from the back of Lincoln’s head. The reverse shows a clash mark near the maul handle up to the N of CENT. This mark originates from the back of Lincoln’s neck, his head and the collar. Also seen is a line from the collar edge in between Lincoln’s right hand and arm. Markers: use specific c lash marks shown; OBVERSE: crack across brow and forehead; vertical die scratch on nose; small die scratch under nose; diagonal scratch from top of Y in LIBERTY; REVERSE: die crack on arm above book. Note: the clash illustrated is very similar to (FY) 002 , but does NOT have a minor DDO and the clash marks are different – use markers to help attribute between the two listed.
