Description

Classified as Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling, the 2024 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel WDDR-003 shows its diagnostic inside the right corner of the large semicircular window on the Monticello reverse. Class VIII doubling results from the hub contacting the die at a slight tilt rather than perfectly parallel, producing displacement that varies across the die face. The semicircular window — part of Monticello's distinctive Palladian architecture — provides clean curved lines where even subtle tilted-hub displacement becomes detectable as shadowing of the window frame. Obverse die markers include a die gouge below the first 2 in the date. The reverse carries a cluster of attribution points: a die gouge to the upper right of the L in PLURIBUS, another inside the O of OF, a third above ER of AMERICA, and a fourth to the lower left of the F in FIVE. This concentration of four reverse die gouges provides unusually robust diagnostic confirmation. The 2024 Jefferson Nickel continues the standard 75% copper, 25% nickel composition, with the Monticello reverse in continuous use since 2006 following the Westward Journey series.
