Description
The 2024 (D) Harriet Tubman Half Dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck at the Denver Mint. With a mintage of just 6,496, this is a scarce issue sought by specialists. Part of the Harriet Tubman three-coin program, this half dollar highlights Tubman's lesser-known military service. The obverse features harriet Tubman in the foreground with two Civil War-era boats in the background, referencing the Combahee River Raid, while the reverse displays Tubman holding a spyglass in front of a row of Civil War-era tents, depicting her role as scout and spy for the Union Army. Designed by Don Everhart and Renata Gordon (obverse), John P. McGraw (reverse). Struck in nickel clad copper-n, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #935783. The Tubman half dollar reveals the military dimension of Tubman's remarkable life, showing her as a Union Army intelligence operative.
