2024-D Variety WMDR-001
Error
Description
Representing a master die doubling reverse variety rather than a working die doubled die, this WMDR-001 on the 2024 Denver Mint Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter affects most if not all Denver-struck Murray quarters from this production run. Master die doubling occurs at an earlier stage in the die manufacturing chain than working die doubling: the misalignment happened when the master die itself was hubbed, meaning every working die produced from that master inherited the doubling. This distinguishes it fundamentally from a doubled die where only a single working die is affected. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2024-D 25¢ PM WMDR-001, the variety's presence across the entire Denver production makes it readily available to collectors despite being a genuine manufacturing anomaly. The Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter is part of the American Women Quarters series running from 2022 through 2025, and this master die doubling represents one of the more significant die variety discoveries within the program. No other cross-references are currently known beyond the Wexler attribution, establishing it as the primary catalog entry for this widespread Denver Mint variety.
