Description

Holding the leading catalog position as the first doubled die obverse for the 2020 Lincoln Shield Cent, the WDDO-001 presents moderate extra thickness on LIBERTY with distinctive characteristics. The upper right of the Y in LIBERTY is considerably thicker than the upper left, and notching appears on the lower left corners of the E, R, T, and Y. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge under the right side of the E in LIBERTY and small gouges both just left of and under the right side of the lower second 2 in the date. No significant reverse markers have been noted. The notching pattern on LIBERTY is particularly diagnostic — the lower left corner displacement on four consecutive letters creates a repeating visual signature that distinguishes genuine hub doubling from die deterioration doubling, which typically produces less consistent patterns. Attributed by the Wexler Team, this Philadelphia-mint regular strike rewards careful examination of the LIBERTY inscription under moderate magnification.
