Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as the thirty-second WDDR for the 2020-P Jefferson nickel, this Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling manifests through the upper portion of the center door frame on Monticello above the steps — the same architectural zone that consistently reveals hub tilt across the Return to Monticello series. The reverse die markers include a die dot in the field above the roof on the left side of the building, another dot above the M of MONTICELLO, and a die gouge to the right of the N in MONTICELLO. No significant obverse markers have been noted. Philadelphia's 2020 nickel mintage reached approximately 655 million pieces, a figure that generated heavy die consumption and explains why the WDDR catalog for this date extends past 30 entries. The consistency of Class VIII findings on the Monticello door frame across multiple years (2010, 2019, 2020, 2023) suggests a systematic tendency in the hubbing setup for this denomination, where the hub's contact angle during final impression slightly departs from perfect perpendicularity. Each WDDR entry documents a unique working die with its own combination of die markers, and the three reverse diagnostics listed for WDDR-032 provide the fingerprint needed to distinguish this die from the other 31 cataloged doubled die reverses sharing the same date and mint.
