Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling on the 2020 Jefferson Nickel reverse manifests below the upper portion of the door frame on Monticello's center door above the steps — a location where the architectural detail of Jefferson's Virginia home provides sufficient relief to reveal the subtle displacement characteristic of tilted hub varieties. Class VIII doubling occurs when the hub tilts slightly relative to the die during the impression process, producing a spread that is most pronounced at the points farthest from the tilt axis.
