Description

Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2020-P WDDR-025, this Jefferson Nickel displays Class VIII tilted hub doubling along the left side of the center door frame on Monticello, above the steps. The tilted hub mechanism produces a rotated secondary impression offset at a slight angle from the primary design, distinguishing it from the radial or lateral spreads of other doubling classes. Two clusters of reverse die markers confirm this specific die: a series of slanted die gouges running through the triangular pediment and upper portion of the center door above the steps, and a separate series of slanted die gouges in the field to the left of the Monticello dome. The parallel slant orientation of both gouge clusters suggests they may share a common origin event during die finishing. No significant obverse markers are recorded. The 2020 Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Within the 2020-P WDDR sequence, WDDR-025 is distinguished from neighboring entries primarily by the distinctive slanted gouge patterns — their geometry and placement provide rapid screening criteria under moderate magnification before detailed examination of the door-frame doubling itself.
