Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under die tracking codes UVC-3458 and DMR-002, the 2019 Lincoln Shield Cent DDO-001 is among the most visually accessible modern Lincoln doubled die obverses, showing strong extra thickness on the date, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and Lincoln's profile — a broad spread detectable at 5x by collectors familiar with the normal die. The variety progresses through four die stages. Stage A (EDS) is unconfirmed pending additional specimens. Stage B (EMDS) develops a light die crack on the forehead and a small die gouge dot above the N of CENT on the reverse. Stage C (EMDS) adds a die chip and a more pronounced forehead crack, while the reverse enters its EMDS. Stage D (LDS) is unconfirmed. The Stage B and C forehead crack provides a useful secondary diagnostic: once it appears, attribution is reinforced by this progressive obverse feature. Stage C's die chip — a piece of displaced die steel — creates a small raised lump in the field that is tactilely detectable and visible at low magnification.
