Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-3445 and DMR-002, the 2019-D DDO-001 Lincoln Shield Cent shows light spread south manifesting as an extra earlobe beneath Lincoln's primary ear — a portrait feature where even subtle hub displacement produces a visually compelling doubled image. The "extra earlobe" diagnostic is one of the most sought-after variety signatures on modern Lincoln cents because it is detectable with minimal magnification and appeals to both beginning and advanced collectors. Three confirmed die stages document this die's lifecycle: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B at early-to-mid-die-state featuring a light die crack on Lincoln's forehead and another light die crack on the upper left shield edge, and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The progression of die cracks from Stage B onward provides a chronological fingerprint for determining relative strike sequence. The 2019-D cent was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc composition (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19 mm in diameter.
