Description

Featuring the Ozark National Scenic Riverways design from Missouri, the 2017 DDR-001 America the Beautiful quarter shows light spread to the west, producing extra vertical railings on the bridge that spans the river scene. The bridge railings — thin vertical elements repeating across the span — provide an ideal substrate for detecting hub doubling, as even light westward displacement creates visible shadow lines beside each original railing. Cataloged under UVC-2395 / DMR-002 by VarietyVista, die stages progress from Early Die State (Stage A, both reverse and obverse) through Mid Die State (Stage B, unconfirmed) to Late Die State (Stage C, unconfirmed). As the first cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2017 Ozark Riverways Philadelphia issue, DDR-001 represents the primary known DDR variety for this design. The America the Beautiful quarter series (2010–2021) introduced five new reverse designs annually, and each design's unique pictorial elements created distinctive doubling patterns unlike anything seen on the prior Washington quarter reverse. The bridge scene's repeating railings make this variety particularly photogenic under magnification.
