Description

Nineteenth doubled die obverse cataloged by the Wexler Team for the 2016 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield Cent, WDDO-019 targets LIBERTY with extra thickness across all letters, where secondary impressions from hub displacement add visible bulk to the incuse lettering. The Y shows a noticeably thicker upper-right branch — a specific diagnostic where the bifurcation point carries additional raised metal. Notching appears on the lower left portions of E, R, T, and Y, creating a serrated or stepped effect along letter edges where primary and secondary impressions overlap with slight offset. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2016 1-cent WDDO-019, no additional cross-references are currently known. The Lincoln Shield Cent, introduced in 2010 with a union shield reverse replacing the Memorial design, carries the same obverse portrait used since 1909. The LIBERTY inscription, positioned along the left field, provides elongated letter forms where hub doubling creates measurable extra thickness, and the notching on ERTY's lower left offers a repeatable diagnostic pattern that collectors can verify under moderate magnification. Die Markers: Obverse: A small die gouge can be found to the right of the upper I of IN. Reverse: A die crack runs along the top left of the shield with die chips north of the URI in PLURIBUS. A small die gouge (dot) can be found inside the lower R in AMERICA. A small die gouge (dot) can be found below the bottom right of the M and below the E in AMERICA.
