2016 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-021
ErrorDescription
Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2016-P 25¢ WV WDDR-021, this 2016 Philadelphia Mint Harpers Ferry National Park Quarter shows doubling in windows of the arch above the center doorway — the fourth window from left in the bottom row and fourth from left in the second row from bottom. This localized doubling within John Brown's Fort architectural detail demands examination at magnification. Obverse die markers include a NW-SE die scratch between E and S in STATES, a die gouge right of U in QUARTER, a die gouge SE of mintmark P, a gouge between S and T in TRUST, and a gouge below the first S in STATES. The reverse carries short die cracks NE from the second and third barrels, numerous NE-SW die scratches above and left of the building, a die gouge above the left building, and a gouge between the tops of B and R in BROWN'S. The Harpers Ferry design depicts the historic armory in West Virginia, site of John Brown's 1859 raid.
